Each year, the first week of May becomes a special time to honor the core of our nation: public servants. From May 4 – 10, 2025, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) will celebrate the 20 million federal, state, local, and tribal government employees who keep our communities vibrant. These include postal workers delivering mail, teachers shaping young minds, and first responders putting their lives on the line. Hosted by the Partnership for Public Service and the Public Employees Roundtable, PSRW offers a moment to express gratitude. This year, however, our appreciation must extend further—public servants need our unwavering support now more than ever.

From pioneering paperless systems to enhance efficiency, to advancing infrastructure, bolstering cybersecurity, and even safeguarding Earth from asteroids, civil servants are committed to enriching lives and securing our nation.

The Government Success Database showcases numerous career civil servants whose impactful work strengthens our country. Their efforts, whether safeguarding public health, fortifying national security, tackling climate change, or promoting economic stability, demonstrate the critical role of a nonpartisan civil service in serving the public good. These quiet heroes rarely make the news, yet their dedication touches us all.

How can we show our support? Start simply: participate in the #ISupportFeds campaign to share stories of public servants who’ve made a difference in your life. Perhaps it’s the park ranger who made your camping adventure memorable or the VA nurse who cared for a loved one. Attend a PSRW event, like a local awards ceremony or community gathering, or pen a heartfelt thank-you note. Visit the Partnership’s FedSupport hub or listen to their “Profiles in Public Service” podcast for ideas.

PSRW 2025 is more than a week to applaud civil servants; it’s a rallying cry to stand by them. They’ve guided us through challenges and kept our communities running smoothly. Let’s ensure they have the encouragement to continue. A robust civil service isn’t just a workforce—it’s the foundation of our democracy.
